SEND HELP NOW

Four years of war have left more than 24 million people—75 percent of the country’s population—in need of humanitarian support.

The crisis in Yemen is one of the most complex and challenging humanitarian crises in the world, and the suffering is on a scale that the humanitarian community has not faced before.

The economy has collapsed, millions have lost their sources of income, and the government is no longer able to provide essential services. More than nine million Yemenis face severe food shortages, risking starvation, and an estimated 17.8 million people lack adequate access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. In addition to the two million children are suffering from acute malnutrition, 14 million people are in acute need of adequate health care, yet only half of Yemen’s health facilities are operational.

Medair is preparing to respond to these needs. Our team is ready to provide humanitarian assistance to families affected by the crisis.

How We’ll Help

Nutrition

Medair’s activities will focus on providing children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers living in remote villages and conflict-affected communities recover from acute malnutrition. Taking a community-based approach with health volunteers visiting individual households, Medair aims to ensure that families know about important practices that can keep their families safe from illness and disease, and to actively look for malnourished children to be referred for treatment.

Health

Medair will support health facilities to provide quality services to vulnerable people, focusing on young children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers. We will work together with the Ministry of Health to improve existing health facilities, to train doctors, nurses and midwives in quality health care provision, and to provide medicines and supplies. We will respond to disease outbreaks and population displacement by supporting health facilities in some of the hardest hit areas.

Medair is an independent, impartial, and neutral organisation. Our staff visit all locations in person to independently assess needs and prioritise our responses based on the needs of the most vulnerable.
