EMERGENCY: Devastating floods in Madagascar  Flooding in Madagascar leading to life-threatening conditions
SEND HELP NOW

Torrential rains caught many by surprise in Madagascar, one of the world’s poorest countries which is already feeling the negative impacts of climate change. People who live well below the poverty line will struggle to recover as homes, possessions, and livelihoods are lost. The Malagasy Government has declared a State of Emergency and requested international assistance. Medair has deployed our Emergency Response Team to two hard-to-reach areas.

Right now, our teams are setting up quick impact responses to give immediate relief. This will require charter flights, transportation of massive cargo into areas where waters are high, and locating and assessing needs for people who have fled their homes.

To date, 36 people are known to have died. More than 16,000 are displaced and the floods have affected nearly 130,000 people. We will only know the full impact once the waters recede.

We need your help to respond as quickly as possible. We know that immediate needs will be:

Shelter – Families have lost their homes and are in urgent need of safe shelter

Water and Sanitation – there will be high risk of cholera, malaria, and other water-borne diseases. There will be huge needs for soap and for supplies to decontaminate and store safe water.

Please join us in bringing relief and hope to Madagascar.
